How to differ Smart phones and Cell Phone
A phone or cell phone
is an electronic device that makes calls through the use of a mobile phone over
an Internet connection. Radio frequency links establish connections for a mobile
operator's switching system that allows access to public switched phone
networks (PSTNs). Mobile telephone services today utilize telephony networks,
so mobile phones in the US are also known as cellular or cell phones.
A Smartphone is a
portable computer device that combines phone, computer and other functions in a
single unit. The phones are distinguished from the Smartphone in terms of
hardware capabilities and extensive mobile operating system that facilitate
broader software, internet services, and multimedia functions — these include
audio and video recording, as well as gaming, as well as basic phone functions
like voice and texting.
What makes Smart Phones a threat to humanity
Almost half the
American population - 97% - has some sort of cell phone, according to Pew
Research Center data. The Smartphone can be very addictive.
Cell phones have
changed the 21st century communications systems and its uses have been growing
rapidly. Approximately 91 percent of Americans had Smartphone in their hands,
32 percent owned e-readers, and 42 percent used tablets. The data demonstrates
cellular phone popularity. People see a constant monitor on their phone to see
messages or call if their phone does not vibrate. Cell phone usage can cause
health problems without a knowing it. Exposure to electromagnetic from mobile
phones affects our health and well-being.
In a survey of 11
different countries, attitudes towards mobile phones are generally good. Most
people in most countries have reported using Smartphone as personal aid in
their lives while many are claiming that Smartphone positively impact
education. Mobile phones help people communicate with distant families and
friends by keeping them updated about latest developments. In addition,
positive attitudes are matched to concern about the impact mobiles are having
on certain sectors of the society.
However, here is
evidence that suggests that using a mobile phone excessively might be dangerous
to our life;
Cell Phones are messing with your sleep
In the 1990s cell phone
technology was first widespread in the United States. Since that time, besides
a growing number of Smartphone used for personal communications, it's gotten
worse. Cell phones emit energy called Radiofrequency wave (RF) causing concerns
about their use. The biggest concerns were centered on whether cell phone use
could be associated with increased brain and vascular diseases in the head and
neck.
The hormone that
regulates your sleep-wake cycle, melatonin, is suppressed by the blue light
reflecting from cell phone screens. This makes it much more challenging to go
to sleep and awaken the next morning. Melatonin, a hormone that alerts the body
that it is time to sleep, is often released at night as a response to the
darkness. The blue light released by mobile phones and other electronic
gadgets, on the other hand, prevents melatonin from being produced since our
brains are extremely sensitive to light. According to a research, using a cell
phone right before bed may result in headaches, disorientation, and
sleeplessness. Additionally, the radiation from mobile phones might reduce the
amount of deep sleep you get, preventing your body from rejuvenating itself.
Mobiles
Phones distracting drivers
The world is
complicated. Many things demand our attention. Stress at work takes up occupied
space within our minds and it also includes work life and tech life. When
distraction stops an important and hazardous task like driving, accidents
occur. Activities that distract you from the steering wheel may cause
distraction when driving. It could be eating, grooming, changing air conditioner
settings or talking. Nowadays distracted drivers use cell phone phones in
almost every way.
Distracted driving is a
person who tries to distract attention from driving, if it involves texting or
talking with your phone or other devices. Text messages are a major distracting
activity. If you send texts to people you don’t see for five seconds, you will
be distracted. At 57 mph it is almost as much driving on an entire football
field without focusing. It's impossible to drive in an unprotected way without
full attention. Almost anything that involves no driving activities may result
in distractions that increase your chances of a crash.
You hear it and maybe
you see it. But most Americans with Smartphone understand texting at night is
unsafe. However, it's still very common and it's not always the case,
particularly for teenagers. A study found that 9 people are killed every day
from distracted driving, including texting. Today, about 4 crashes involve cell
phones and Smartphone are 4 times more likely to cause crashes than any other
device. Although the numbers seem shocking, most drivers still look at the
phones while driving.
Children’s addiction towards Mobile Phones
What do Mobile Phones
do for children, Causes of Addiction? The technology enables the young to learn
to use computers faster as an adult. There are various kinds of radiations
emitted through cell phones and wireless devices. In an age where technology is
more important for children, the opportunities for learning will be even
greater. Mobile phones can generate various kinds of radiated radiation
including ionizing and nonionic radiation, and microwave radiation.
The vibrations and
beeps from it will prevent them from getting a good night's sleep. Sleep
deprivation can result from this, which can have a major negative impact on a
child's mental health if they are under the age of 19. One of the most
important components of wellbeing as we age is a strong spine.
Numerous studies relate
young mental health issues, such as sadness, anxiety, and disturbed sleep, to
addictive interactions with mobile devices. According to neuroscience, teens
and adolescents are more susceptible to both addiction and mental health problems
due to their maturing brains.
Mobile Phones are making us unsocial
Table of contents
Social networking is very important for young people in today's world. This is
their method of sharing with others their life experience. But social networks
are also harmful for teenagers. They can start to compare themselves and others
with other social media users and feel they can never measure up or get more
likes. Facebook has huge influence in many people's daily lives. I'm usually
surprised when someone stares at his phone rather than speaking or is unaware
that their phone is looking down.
Besides Smartphone
features, internet applications are largely available. This survey looked at a
new phenomenon: internet and phone addiction. Currently little research is done
on this topic, although addiction is increasingly detrimental to our lives.
Reliabilities problems arising from self-reporting formats, cultural
limitations and limited research are leading some experts in Internet addiction
to doubt their diagnoses. Indeed the addiction to the internet is rooted in
Smartphone addiction although in general Smartphone addiction happens due to
electronic communication systems. Smart technology was promised ten years back
to improve our thinking, but they didn’t. Andrew GEE examines scientific
evidence that the use of digital distractions affects the mental health of
humans in unprecedented fashion in the year 1906 – the year the city of Los
Angeles was devastated by an earthquake - causing an unprecedented surge in
distress.
Smart Phones are making us unhealthy
In many instances
different survey results can differ from country to region, Ireland often ranks
the largest. In 2016, 76% of the Irish population was using the internet daily,
with 37% saying their Smartphone is their primary device, which would have been
more efficient than laptops or tablets. We need more research to understand the
relationship between mobile usage and depression.
The use of mobile
phones is strongly associated with an elevated risk of cancer, according to the
WHO. Kids' developing bodies make them more susceptible to the negative effects
of mobile phones, and holding a phone in their hand, pocket, or bag exposes
them to excessive EMF.
